ROHS refers for the Restriction of Hazards Substances. It is designed for the restriction of the use of hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment (EEE)”. Its objective is to restrict the use of six hazardous substances within electrical and electronic equipment Such as Lead, Mercury, Cadmium, Hexavalent Chromium (Cr-VI), Polybrominated Biphenyl (PBB), Polybrominated Biphenyl ether (PBDE)

All applicable products in the EU market must pass the ROHS compliance after July 1, 2006. The mandatory requirement of ROHS directive is applicable for the European Union and the impact of

What is RoHS Certification?

The reduction of the Hazards from the Electrical and Electronic devices helps to gain Customers support, brand loyalty by RoHS Certification.

RoHS is a product level compliance-based on the use of the aforementioned substances in most Electrical and Electronic Equipments (EEE). RoHS Directives calls for the elimination of Hazard substances to achieve the assurance that the Electronic and Electric devices are regulated to control the levels of certain hazardous substances in them. The reduction in certain substances helps to prevent damage to human health and the environment. All the products need to be monitored and controlled to be within the guidelines of RoHS compliance. All new products need to be monitored for the concentration of restricted substances.

The restricted substances include lead (Pb), mercury (Hg), cadmium (Cd), hexavalent chromium (Cr), polybrominated biphenyls (PBB), and polybrominated Diphenyl ether (PBDE). RoHS compliance Certificate bans or limits the usage of these Hazardous substances in any Electrical and electronic equipment (EEE). Hence, the RoHS Directives states that Hazardous substances should not be added to any products; and if required, should be within the limit stated in the Directives to trace the safety of the devices and compliance with the RoHS Directive.

The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (WEEE) 2002/96/EC is linked with RoHS Restriction of Hazardous Substances. WEEE sets the process for collecting, recycling, and recovering huge amounts of toxic e-waste as a part of a legislative. RoHS Directives apply to all manufacturers, resellers, and distributors of products including large household appliances small household appliances, communications equipment, toys, and sports equipment. All the products must pass WEEE to get an entry into EU markets.

ROHS CERTIFICATION

The RoHS Directive stands for “the restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment“. This Directive bans the placing on the EU market of new electrical and electronic equipment containing more than agreed levels of lead, cadmium, mercury, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyl (PBB) and polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE) flame retardants.

It is closely linked with the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (WEEE) 2002/96/EC which sets collection, recycling and recovery targets for electrical goods and is part of a legislative initiative to solve the problem of huge amounts of toxic e-waste.

Manufacturers need to understand the requirements of the RoHS Directive to ensure that their products, and their components, comply.
